I am a New Yorker
I realized today as I wished death to an elderly couple who were walking extremely slow in front of me that I have adopted many New Yorker habits. I know exactly where to stand on the subway platform to transfer to my next train. I have eaten pizza for every meal for an entire week. I have stopped paying attention to those flashing hand and people signals and cross whenever and wherever I want. And I use tourist as a swear word.
Then again I still retain much of my old, rural self. I like to look up at the skyscrapers when I’m in midtown. I love spinning the cube in Astor place, especially after cheap drinks at the Continental. And although I actively use my gym membership, working from home made me realize how spoiled I was having a gym in the same building as where I worked.
